Virtue is built by an independent developer in Norway. This policy explains what the app and this website collect, where that data goes, and what never happens to it. It is written to be read, not to protect anyone in court.
Your workouts, meals, sleep entries, run routes and recovery history are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to a server, and no account is required to use the app.
If you grant permission, Virtue reads sleep analysis, heart rate variability and resting heart rate from Apple Health to improve your readiness estimate. Virtue only reads; it never writes to Apple Health.
Heart rate variability and resting heart rate stay on your device. Sleep duration and quality are different: if you use the AI coach, they become part of the training summary sent with your question, described under “AI meal and training features” below. If you do not turn the AI features on, nothing from Apple Health leaves your phone. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app, and Virtue keeps working without it.
If you use run tracking, Virtue records your location, including in the background while a run is active, to measure distance, pace and route. Location is used only for the run you are recording, stays on your device, and is never shared or sold.
When you describe or photograph a meal, or ask Virtue a training question, that text or image is sent to Anthropic's API through a proxy server we operate, analysed, and the result is returned to your phone. Concretely:
If you never use the AI features, no training data leaves your device.
The AI features are off when you install the app. The first time you open the AI tab, Virtue shows you what is sent, who processes it, and a link to this page, and nothing is sent until you choose to turn them on. Choosing “Not now” leaves logging, sleep, history and statistics working exactly as before. You can change your mind at any time in Profile → Settings.
The coach is an AI system, not a person. Every answer it gives is generated by a model.
When you search for a food, the search word is sent to USDA FoodData Central, Matvaretabellen and Open Food Facts to look up nutrition figures. Only the search word. Nothing about you is attached.
If you enter your email address to be notified at launch, that address, and your name if you choose to give it, is stored with our email provider for the sole purpose of sending you launch and product updates. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time by writing to support@trainvirtue.com.
Our host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. We do not run advertising trackers or cross-site profiling on this site.
Virtue is a training and lifestyle app. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, prevent or monitor any medical condition. Readiness is an estimate built from what you logged — sessions, sleep and perceived effort — not a measurement of your body.
The coach is not a doctor, a physiotherapist or a dietitian. If a message describes symptoms that need attention — a blow to the head with warning signs, chest pain, numbness or loss of strength, and a handful of others — the app does not send the question to the AI at all. It returns a fixed response pointing you to urgent care and declines to give training advice. It will not tell you what you have; it is not able to examine you.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to how it is processed. In practice, the only personal data we hold outside your own device is your email address if you gave us one. Write to support@trainvirtue.com and it will be handled. You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
Your training data lives on your device, not on our servers. That means we cannot read it, lose it, or hand it to anyone, and it also means it is yours to manage. Deleting the app deletes the data with it, so back up anything you want to keep before you do.
Virtue is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be announced in the app.
